Rescue and Educational Initiatives in Guatemala
In Guatemala, we work closely with local community and government agencies, which coordinate with local police and courts to refer abused and orphaned children to us. These children are invited into our “forever home” in Xela, where they can live, receive care, and begin their healing journey. Currently, 22 children live in our home.
Holistic Care and Support
The home provides care, including food, shelter, medical care, counseling, and emotional support. The environment is designed to be bright and cheerful, fostering a sense of safety and well-being. We have a dedicated psychologist and four social workers on staff to provide regular support and ensure the emotional and psychological health of the children.
Onsite Education
Our on-site elementary school serves 160 children, including those living in our home. It is in one of Quetzaltenango's poorest and most violent neighborhoods.
The classrooms are optimized for learning, featuring brightly painted walls, potted plants, and flowers to create an engaging educational environment. We also provide funds for children to attend high school, vocational school, and college. Each child completes a life plan based on their skills and vocational interests, setting them on a path to careers that will transform their lives.
Survivor-Driven Change
We focus on changing the children's mindsets from seeing themselves as victims to adopting positive attitudes that enable them to become change-makers. Through extensive counseling and hearing stories from other survivors, children learn to see themselves as capable of overcoming their past. Classes on civil formation help them understand how to defend their rights and access the law enforcement system and justice on behalf of themselves and others.
Community Advocacy and Empowerment
Children in our programs learn about the root causes of injustice within their society and ways to change these patterns within their own families. This knowledge and confidence help them become community advocates capable of influencing many others. We provide scholarships for college and opportunities for vocational training through access to private companies. As children pursue higher education, they benefit from the Many Hopes global community, which offers capital, expertise, employment, and further study opportunities to help them become change-makers in their communities.
